Ancona chickens originate in the Mediterranean, and are a rare and ancient breed in need of preservation. These birds are about the same size as leghorns, and reliably produce large white eggs.
We added Ancona hens to our flock several years ago, and they were a mainstay in our egg production. The white eggs were a wonderful addition to the egg carton, providing contrast to our colored eggs.
We placed an order for sexed female Ancona chicks (along with other breeds), due to arrive in April 2009. See our Chickens page for more information.
Pale aqua blue Ameraucana eggs, with one dark brown Marans egg and one white Ancona egg for contrast. Note the large size of the Ancona egg.
