An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.  "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.  One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Greener Pastures Farm - About Us

We are Jon and Ronda, a married couple firmly
committed to living a rural life and raising practical
breeds in an organic manner.

Jon works outside the home in a demanding job, and
when he's not working hard there, he's working hard
and playing hard here at home.  Jon has built one barn
and four sheds since we have lived here, and is
constantly doing something to improve this place.  His
gates are a work of art!  I suspect that the fences we
have put on our place in the first 4 years can be
measured in miles...  our fencing system was a
collaboration between the two of us, but it would never
have been completed without Jon's hard work and
knowledge of fencing techniques.  Jon enjoys playing
basketball, baseball or other games, producing on-the-spot hilarious stories to entertain our son (I need to make a recording of some of those, including the wild laughter they produce!), petting some of our friendlier sheep, going fishing or hunting during the season, and preparing gourmet meals! Jon knows so much about so many things; he is truly a renaissance man, and is appreciated around here very much.
Live
contented.

I am an at home mother who enjoys putting my hands to many arts and tasks.  Quilting and other needlework are my first loves, I have taught quilting classes in the past and enjoy sharing my love of fabric and the art with others.  Knitting has been a hobby for many years, and I've developed a pattern for heavy duty wool socks that can be purchased on this site.  Since owning sheep I have learned to spin.  My efforts can be seen on other pages on this site.  In addition to fiber arts, I enjoy growing an organic garden, baking bread and other goodies, creating and maintaining several websites, and reading aloud to my family.  I am an avid reader and have passed this love along to our son, Ethan.

Keeping sheep is a major passion for me and I continue to educate myself about our livestock.  Keeping accurate and detailed records is my job and I enjoy it very much.  I make the plans for the next year's breeding groups (and the next and the next!), which I find interesting and rewarding as we continue to produce beautiful lambs each year.

This is truly a family run operation; our son, Ethan, has also kept sheep and pigs at various times since he was 8 years old. Now I have to look up, up, up to see into his eyes! While his intense schedule at high school and college keeps him busy, he still helps when he can, but has sold his own livestock.  We have scaled way back with our own livestock in order to keep balance in our lives and enjoy all of our interests.

Cascade Farmstead sheep at Greener Pastures Farm. April 2008
What IS this? I am sometimes asked about the photo that is the background of many of my website pages, including this one. I didn't realize that it was not immediately recognizable. It is the pasture in our orchard in March, looking down near my feet. You can see grasses and violets, as well as some brown stuff from winter. I love seeing violets here and there in our pastures and lawn.
