May 25, 2006 Cuckoo Marans Hatch

Here are two photos of the eggshell color of the hatch from yesterday and today.  I am including two photos, because color is difficult to convey accurately due to varying light levels, camera angle, color monitors, curvature of the egg, etc.

I'm holding the carton in front of my monitor and comparing them to these two photos.  I think the first photo might be more accurate, but am including the other as well.  The first photo is "warmer" and that is more representative of these eggs.  The second is "cooler" in color, which is not as representative of these eggs, but the "darkness" in the 2nd photo might be more accurate.  The only difference between these 2 photos is the angle and distance I was from the carton; I've learned to take photos from different distances and angles, to hopefully get the most representative photo(s).  I'm including both photos because it's so hard to judge these things even when looking at them in person!  I don't want my customers to drive all the way here and then be as disappointed in egg color as I was when I received shipped eggs in 2005 and 2006!

The carton contains both top and bottom of each egg shell.  The top of each egg is darker than the main part.

I forgot to take a photo of the shells of last month's hatch (which I kept for myself) but they are mostly the same color...  I might have 2 or 3 that are ever-so-slightly darker.  It's difficult to compare a photo to actual eggs, due to the way the light falls and highlights the nearest part of the egg and shadows the curvature, but having said that, I think these eggs range from 6 to 7 on the chart, and the top part of the eggs (the "lid" they pipped off) ranges from 7 to 8.  That top egg that looks so light...  it's in shadow in these photos, but in person its "lid" looks like an 8 or 9 to me.
